Woman Talking

The woman of a religious colony, isolated from modern society, are being sexually assaulted in their sleep. The colony's elders inform them the attacks are an act of Satan or a punishment for their sins until the truth is revealed. The women discover that men from their colony perpetrated their attacks. While the men go into town to bail out the culprits, the women are given just two days to come to terms with their situation and forgive all the men upon their return. While the men are gone, the women decide to hold a meeting and determine their fate collectively.

This film is emotionally heavy and thought-provoking, based on an author's fictional novel based on actual events. The movie does not have a lot of fancy bells and whistles, but it jumps right in and gets to the point. The film does have a few graphic scenes, and the viewer should be aware as they could be triggering. The substance of the dialogue in the movie is where it truly shines. The conversation the women have throughout the film is captivating. The topics are more than just the assaults and the punishment; they discuss their entire experience and existence. This is a great movie to watch if you are looking for something that will give you a different perspective and make you leave the theater thinking about the film's contents.
