With the Wicked Witch vanquished, every Ozian knows the Wicked Witch of the West, but none knows the story of Elphaba. Green-skinned, ignored, and ridiculed, Elphaba never truly belonged. Everything changes when the sorcery professor at Shiz University discovers her ability to wield magic. With hopes of meeting the great and powerful Wizard of Oz and getting her wish granted, Elphaba sets out to master her abilities. Along the way, she learns she can fit in, discovers there is more to life than getting a wish, and uncovers something sinister happening to the animals of Oz.
This novel, adapted into a Broadway musical and now adapted into a movie, is perfectly executed. Fans of the Broadway show will enjoy this movie. It does an outstanding job incorporating critical elements of the stage show and story. The movie fully utilizes its ability to expand the visuals, settings, dance, and action sequences typically limited in a live performance. This musical movie has many song and dance numbers throughout, sometimes making the two-hour and forty-minute runtime feel longer. Fans of the Broadway show and Wizard of Oz will genuinely enjoy it, and it is worth the ticket price to see it on the big screen.
