After Coriolanus Snow's father, one of the founders of the Hunger Games, is killed, the family struggles to stay afloat in the Capital. On the verge of winning a coveted prize, Coriolanus's life is about to change for the better, except the powers that be decide to change the rules of the game. Now, he must mentor his tribute in the 7th annual Hunger Games, except he is given a petite girl who is unlikely to survive. As he navigates the game and tries to win the prize, he questions the morality of all parties involved.
The prequel to the hit book and movie series, this movie is the origin story of President Snow, the cruel ruler of Panem. The film does add some depth to the story of the original trilogy but also creates many questions. The movie could be shortened, some cringy parts removed, and the narrative more concise. The film has some fun easter eggs and references that will excite fans. Still, it does an excellent job of entertaining overall and is worth a watch, especially for fans of the series.
