A Man Called Otto

The neighborhood grouch, Otto Anderson, is set in his ways and his routine. Widowed and recently forced into retirement, Otto has nothing left except to keep his neighborhood in order, enforce the rules, and keep the cookie-cutter real estate developers at bay. All is quiet until renters move into the house across the street, and when Otto thinks he is done with the world, a young family forces him to reconnect with the neighbors and community he wrote off.

The movie adaptation of a New York Times best-seller, A Man Called Ovo, is simply amazing. We hardly see stories about what happens to a character at the tail end of their life, and this movie does just that. The story is told so that we learn why the character is the way he is through his past. As the audience relives his life, they grow to empathize with his grumpy demeanor until they finally are in love with him. Check out this film if you want a drama with some chuckle-inducing moments and potential waterworks.
