Black Adam

The city of Kahndaq has always been oppressed for over 5000 years. First by its ruler and now by a military group looking for an ancient artifact. A small group of citizens manages to secure the artifact but are ambushed by soldiers. To survive the onslaught, they speak an incantation carved into the floor, releasing who they think is the savior of Kahndaq. Unleashed onto a modern world, Black Adam must battle the invading forces of Kahndaq, protect the small group of rebels, defend himself from a super team sent to stop him, and come to terms with his past and mortality.

Another DC comics superhero movie, this one, unfortunately, follows in the footsteps of its predecessors. The film has a good story, but the overall execution could be better. We are introduced to an entire team of superheroes with little to no backstory or connection to the universe, which is frustrating for viewers who need to be better versed in the DCEU. The character of Black Adam is part of the Shazam story arc in the comics. Still, the movie does not tie Black Adam into the previous or upcoming Shazam movies, which leaves viewers wondering how Black Adam fits into the entire DCEU. The film is easy to watch, simple enough, and requires little thought. The action is CGI-heavy and is one long action sequence. If you are a fan of superhero movies and the DCEU, this is a must-watch to keep up with the upcoming releases. If you want to watch a mindless action movie, stream this one when available.
